About the What Should I Draw Wheel

The "what should I draw" wheel answers the blank-page question with a subject: it is already loaded with 30 drawing ideas, from fantasy and sci-fi to things on your desk, so you can spin and start sketching instead of scrolling for inspiration.

    What is on the wheel

Thirty subjects we picked to be concrete enough to start on straight away and open enough to draw in any style: fantasy (dragon, mermaid, wizard, unicorn), sci-fi (robot, astronaut, rocket, underwater city), places and buildings (castle, lighthouse, treehouse, haunted house), nature (volcano, waterfall, fox in the snow, jellyfish) and things you can draw from life — your pet, your shoes, your hand, a coffee mug, a self-portrait. Every idea appears once, so each has a 1 in 30 chance — 3.33%.

Ways to use a drawing idea wheel

    • Art block: spin once and give yourself ten minutes with whatever comes up, however rough.
    • 30-day challenge: switch on "Remove the winner" and spin 30 times in one go — the spin history saves the order in this browser, and that is your schedule for the month.
    • Mash-ups: spin twice and draw both in one picture — a wizard in a food truck, a dragon in a lighthouse.
    • Art class or club: spin once on the projector so the whole room draws the same subject, or share the wheel link so everyone spins the same list.
    • Drawing game with friends: one spin, a five-minute timer, then everyone shows their version.

    Adding your own prompts

Type new ideas under the list, one per line, or delete the ones that do not suit you — the wheel redraws as you type. To practise a weak spot, type that subject more than once: "Your Hand" on three lines out of 32 comes up with a 9.38% chance, and the result reports that real figure instead of one over the number of sectors.

    Getting the 30 ideas back

Edits are saved in this browser for this page only, so this wheel and the plain wheel keep separate lists. "Restore all" puts back the ideas that "Remove the winner" took off, and "Restore the preset" replaces any edits with the original 30. Nothing is uploaded: a shared link carries the entries inside the link itself.

    FAQ

What should I draw if I have no ideas?

Spin the wheel and draw whatever it lands on for ten minutes, without aiming for a finished piece. The 30 starting subjects range from fantasy (dragon, wizard) to things in front of you (your shoes, your hand, a coffee mug), so there is always something you can start on.

Can I use the wheel for a 30-day drawing challenge?

Yes. Switch on Remove the winner and spin 30 times in one sitting: each subject leaves the wheel after it comes up, so you get all 30 in a random order with no repeats. The spin history keeps that order in this browser, so you can come back to it every day; the removed entries themselves return to the wheel when you reload the page.

How do I add my own drawing prompts?

Type them under the existing list, one per line, or press Clear and write a list of your own. Restore the preset brings the original 30 ideas back at any time.

Are these drawing ideas good for beginners?

Most of them are: a mug, a cactus in a pot, your shoes or a lighthouse are simple shapes you can draw from life or a photo. Delete the harder ones, such as the underwater city or a self-portrait, if you want an easier wheel.
