About the NBA Team Wheel

The NBA team wheel is a random team picker loaded with every team in the National Basketball Association, so the first spin gives you a team without anyone typing 30 names — for a video-game challenge, a pool among friends or a team to follow this season.

Which teams are on the wheel

All 30 NBA teams under the names the league uses, checked against the team directory on NBA.com on 2 October 2026 — including the LA Clippers, who write their city as "LA". The list runs Eastern Conference first (Atlantic, Central and Southeast divisions), then Western (Northwest, Pacific and Southwest), five teams per division. No expansion team plays yet: in March 2026 the league's Board of Governors voted only to explore new franchises in Seattle and Las Vegas, aimed at the 2028-29 season at the earliest. Every team appears once, so each has a 1 in 30 chance — 3.33%.

Ways people use an NBA team wheel

Video-game challenge: spin for the team you have to play a season or rebuild a roster with in a basketball game.
Office or family pool: switch on "Remove the winner" and spin once per person, so nobody gets the same team.
Picking a team to follow: new to the league? Let the wheel choose and give that team one season.
Trivia round: spin, then name three current players or the team's arena before the next spin.
Tonight's game: delete every team that is not playing today and spin for the game to watch.

One conference, one division, or a favorite

Because the list is in conference order, narrowing it is one block of lines: delete the last 15 and only the Eastern Conference is left, each team at 6.67%. There is no separate weights field — type a team twice and it counts as two entries: with one team on two lines out of 31, the result reports its real chance of 6.45%. A long name such as "Minnesota Timberwolves" can be shortened on its sector; the result always shows it in full.

Getting all 30 teams back

Edits are saved in this browser for this page only, so the NBA wheel and the plain wheel keep separate lists. "Restore all" puts back the teams that "Remove the winner" took off, and "Restore the preset" replaces any edits with the original 30. Nothing is uploaded: a shared link carries the entries inside the link itself.

Are all 30 NBA teams on the wheel?

Yes. The wheel starts on all 30 teams under their full names, checked against NBA.com on 2 October 2026, and each has a 1 in 30 chance — 3.33% — until you change the list.

Does the wheel include a Seattle or Las Vegas team?

No, because neither exists yet. In March 2026 the NBA's Board of Governors voted to explore expansion to Seattle and Las Vegas, with play aimed at the 2028-29 season at the earliest; no franchise has been awarded, so the league still has 30 teams. You can type either city onto the wheel yourself.

How do I give every friend a different NBA team?

Switch on Remove the winner and spin once for each person. Every team that wins leaves the wheel, so no two people get the same one, and the spin history keeps the order. One click on Restore all puts the teams back.

Can I spin only Eastern or Western Conference teams?

Yes. The first 15 lines are the Eastern Conference and the last 15 the Western, so deleting one block leaves the other — each team then has a 1 in 15 chance, 6.67%. Restore the preset brings back all 30.
