CPS Test — Measure How Many Clicks Per Second You Make

Pick a duration and click as fast as you can. The countdown starts on your first click.

Duration

How the measurement works

  • A click is counted on the press, not on the release. At speed those are different things: if your hand shakes and the finger lifts outside the zone, the browser never fires a click event at all and that click would be lost.
  • The countdown starts on your first click, so your reaction to the start button stays out of the score. The window closes exactly on the timer — presses after it do not count.
  • The CPS chart is sampled every 100 ms through a one-second rolling window rather than at click times, so it shows your actual pace instead of the density of your clicks.
  • Jitter is the standard deviation of the gaps between presses. A near-zero spread over a hundred clicks is not something a hand produces, and the test says so when it sees one.

What your score means

CPSRatingWhat it means
under 4SlowUsually the mouse, or a finger that never leaves the button
4–6AverageA relaxed index-finger click with no technique behind it
6–8GoodThe top of normal clicking — where most people who really try end up
8–10FastThe ceiling of normal clicking; past this there is almost always a technique
10–12Very fastTypically jitter clicking: forearm tremor instead of finger movement
12 and aboveEliteButterfly or drag clicking, both banned on many game servers

FAQ

What is CPS?

CPS stands for clicks per second. The test counts every press inside the chosen window and divides by the length of that window, so it makes no difference whether you sped up at the end or fell away.

What is a good CPS score?

With a normal index-finger click, most people hold 6 to 10 clicks per second. Above 10 there is almost always a technique involved — jitter, butterfly or drag clicking. Below 5 is usually the mouse, or a finger that never leaves the button.

When exactly is a click counted?

On the press, not on the release. At speed that matters: if your hand shakes and the finger lifts outside the zone, the browser never fires a click event at all and that click would simply be lost. Counting presses does not lose it.

Which duration should I pick?

Five seconds measures raw speed, ten is the standard for comparing yourself against others, thirty and beyond measure endurance. Start with ten — that is the distance people quote their CPS from.

Does the test work on a phone?

Yes. The zone answers taps the same way it answers mouse clicks, and double-tap zoom is switched off so none of them are swallowed. Comparing a finger-on-glass score against a mouse score means little, though.
