How many liters are in 1 kilogram of sugar?
How many liters are in 1 kilogram of sugar?
Answer
The bulk density of sugar is 0.72–0.9 kg/L, measured like this: dry granulated sugar; the low end is loose fill, the high end is settled. This is not the density of the crystals. Note the range runs the other way here than on the weight page: denser packing means less volume for the same mass.
How the volume of 1 kilogram of sugar was worked out
The density band gives two answers, and they swap places against the weight page: the lower volume comes from the upper density, because denser packing fits the same mass into less room.
1 kg ÷ 0.9 kg/L
≈1.11 L
dense packing
1 kg ÷ 0.72 kg/L
≈1.39 L
loose pour
The density comes from Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University, granulated sugar. Dry granulated sugar; the low end is loose fill, the high end is settled. This is not the density of the crystals.
The other way round: what a liter of this weighs
This page starts from a mass and answers in liters. The opposite question — how much a given volume weighs — is what the liters to kilograms calculator is for. Both read the same density table, so the two pages agree wherever the answer is volume times density.
For sugar the density is 0.72–0.9 kg/L, so 1 kilogram takes 1.11–1.39 liters — and one liter of it weighs 0.72–0.9 kg.
