The bulk density of sand is 1.65–2 kg/L, measured like this: dry loose fill; wet sand bulks up and can weigh less. Note the range runs the other way here than on the weight page: denser packing means less volume for the same mass.
How the volume of 1 kilogram of sand was worked out
The density band gives two answers, and they swap places against the weight page: the lower volume comes from the upper density, because denser packing fits the same mass into less room.
