How to find the multiples of a number
A multiple of a number is that number times a whole number: 3, 6, 9, 12, … are multiples of 3. A number is a multiple of 3 when dividing it by 3 leaves no remainder.
Example: the multiples of 3 from 1 to 100
| 1 | 2 | 3 multiple of 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 multiple of 3 | 7 | 8 | 9 multiple of 3 | 10 |
| 11 | 12 multiple of 3 | 13 | 14 | 15 multiple of 3 | 16 | 17 | 18 multiple of 3 | 19 | 20 |
| 21 multiple of 3 | 22 | 23 | 24 multiple of 3 | 25 | 26 | 27 multiple of 3 | 28 | 29 | 30 multiple of 3 |
| 31 | 32 | 33 multiple of 3 | 34 | 35 | 36 multiple of 3 | 37 | 38 | 39 multiple of 3 | 40 |

Common mistakes
- Multiples are not factors. Multiples of 7 (7, 14, 21, …) are divisible by 7; factors of 7 (1 and 7) divide 7. The multiples go on forever, the factors stop at the number itself.
- “24 is a multiple of …” asks for the factors of 24: 24 is a multiple of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24.
- 0 is a multiple of every number (0 = 3 × 0), but lists of multiples start at the number itself: 3, 6, 9, …
- The list never ends: “all the multiples of 3” is a rule — 3 × 1, 3 × 2, 3 × 3 and so on — not a finite list.

FAQ
What is a multiple of a number?
It is that number times a whole number. 3 × 4 = 12, so 12 is a multiple of 3 — and of 4.
Is a number a multiple of itself?
Yes: every number is a multiple of itself, because N = N × 1. It is the first multiple on every list — 7 is the first multiple of 7.
What is the difference between factors and multiples?
Factors of a number divide it; multiples of a number are divisible by it. The factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12 — a short list that ends at 12; the multiples of 12 are 12, 24, 36 and so on, without end.
What are common multiples?
Numbers that are multiples of two numbers at once: 12, 24, 36, … are common multiples of 4 and 6. The smallest of them, 12, is the least common multiple — the LCM calculator finds it for any pair.
