How to convert bytes to megabytes
Worked example: 1,048,576 B = 1 MB
1,048,576 B ÷ 1,048,576 = 1 MB
Rule: megabytes = bytes ÷ 1,048,576 — binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 B.

FAQ
What is the formula to convert bytes to MB?
Divide the number of bytes by 1,048,576 = 1,024 × 1,024 (2²⁰): MB = bytes ÷ 1,048,576. For example, 1,048,576 bytes = 1 MB, 10,485,760 bytes = 10 MB and 1,000,000 bytes ≈ 0.95 MB.
Why is a 10 MB upload limit 10,485,760 bytes?
Because servers and programming languages count in binary units: 1 MB = 1,024 KB of 1,024 bytes each, 1,048,576 bytes in total, so 10 MB = 10,485,760 bytes. Some services quote limits in decimal (SI) units instead, where 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes; a file of 10,000,000 bytes is 10 MB on that scale and about 9.54 MB on the binary one.
How many bytes are in a megabyte?
1,048,576 bytes on the binary scale of operating systems, memory and this converter; the IEC name for this unit is the mebibyte (MiB). On the decimal scale of drive and network vendors a megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes.
