How to convert bars to atmospheres
Worked example: 1 bar ≈ 0.99 atm
1 bar ÷ 1.01325 ≈ 0.99 atm
Rule: atmospheres = bars ÷ 1.01325 — exact: 1 atm = 1.01325 bar.

FAQ
How many atm is 1 bar?
1 bar ≈ 0.986923 atm. The exact relation goes the other way: 1 atm = 1.01325 bar, so atm = bar ÷ 1.01325.
Is a bar the same as an atmosphere?
No, but they are close: 1 atm = 1.01325 bar exactly, so a bar is about 1.3% smaller. For a tire or a scuba tank the difference rarely matters; in a lab it does.
Where does 1.01325 come from?
Both units are defined in pascals: the standard atmosphere is exactly 101,325 Pa (General Conference on Weights and Measures, 1954), and a bar is exactly 100,000 Pa. 101,325 ÷ 100,000 = 1.01325, a terminating decimal, so the factor is exact.
Gauge or absolute pressure: does it matter?
No, as long as both sides are of the same kind. Gauge pressure (barg) counts from the surrounding air, absolute pressure (bara) from vacuum, and the factor is the same for both. Tire and compressor gauges show gauge pressure.
