FAQ
How many yards are in a foot?
A third of a yard: 1 ft ≈ 0.3333 yd, because 3 ft = 1 yd exactly. So yards = feet ÷ 3.
Why is the answer often rounded?
Dividing by 3 gives an endless decimal unless the feet are a multiple of 3: 100 ft ÷ 3 ≈ 33.33 yd. The page rounds to two decimals (three below one yard) and adds the exact form in whole yards and feet, 100 ft = 33 yd 1 ft.
Where does 3 feet in a yard come from?
Since the 1959 international yard and pound agreement, 1 yd = 0.9144 m and 1 ft = 0.3048 m, both exactly, so a yard is exactly three feet.
How many yards is a mile?
A mile is 5,280 feet, which is exactly 1,760 yards.
