FAQ
What time zone is the converted date shown in?
In UTC. A Unix timestamp has no time zone of its own — it is the number of seconds elapsed since 1 January 1970, 00:00:00 UTC — so to get local time you add your own offset to the result.
Why does my 13-digit timestamp convert to the wrong year?
Because it is in milliseconds, not seconds: JavaScript, Java and many APIs return milliseconds. Drop the last three digits (divide by 1000) before converting — 1577836800000 is the millisecond form of 1577836800.
Can a Unix timestamp be negative, and how far does the converter go?
Yes: dates before 1970 are negative, and -2208988800 is 1 January 1900. This converter accepts values from -2208988800 to 4102444800, that is from 1900 to 2100. Beware that 32-bit signed systems still overflow at 2147483647 seconds — 19 January 2038.
